Pink and new!

I have been posting here for over a year now...70 posts to be exact!

Well the time has come...and the drums are rolling...not only have I had a bit of a makeover (that's my business, not myself...although I probably need it more!) but I now have a bright, shiny and brand new blog.

I won't be posting here anymore...
I'm hoping to move all these posts over to the new blog..but it's already done my head in too many times. So for now I will keep this one open...and redirect you here.

wild boys

When we planned and built our home 4 years ago...we knew it had to be 'boy friendly'. Encouraging our kids to be active and play outdoors has always been important to us.

So a part of the plan was always to have a big, bouncy, 'built into the ground'..trampoline.

...and they still use it, nearly every day!

I'm not sure I will ever get used to the amount of constant action and activity
...from morning until night these boys hardly stop.

Sometimes it's tiring just watching them!

Lucy | Melbourne child photography

My boys are always quite excited when little Lucy comes to visit.

...she is like the little sister that they (well, Charlie) would love to have.

At 18months Lucy is finally able to rough and tumble with the boys..

and had her first try on our trampoline.

Lucy got so excited about this big bouncy mesh...that she quite literally

went wild! Thrashing and throwing herself around..

Elissa and I were in hysterics...and she was having a ball!

I did have some grand plans for cute shots of Lucy peeking out

of the pirate tent, in her co-ordinating outfit

....but they were all having too much fun.

We had a day out at Montsalvat recently.

It's one of my favourite photographic locations, with so many beautiful buildings,

interesting walls, rooms and unusual spaces.

While my older boys ran around exploring (and their Dad napped on the lawn)

Charlie and I had a wander around together.

He is looking so much older lately, maybe school has done that to him...

or maybe he's just growing up a little faster than I would like?

I seem to have photographed lots of baby boys lately

...so I was thrilled to meet lovely Bree, Travis and their gorgeous baby girl this week!

Baby Zarah was just perfect...had a little sleep and pretty much spent the whole session behaving beautifully.

Gorgeous little man | melbourne baby photography

It is always lovely to meet another beautiful family.

I met gorgeous 7 month old baby Nathan, and his rather stunning Mum and Dad yesterday.

He wasn't too sure about me to begin with...

but by the time I left he was showing me all his tricks

...including his gorgeous smile!

Nathan has the most beautiful big, brown eyes...and the cutest smile.

Gorgeous boys | melbourne photography

Late last week I met Melissa, and her two beautiful boys.

2 year old Jackson was napping when I arrived which gave us the perfect opportunity for some special shots of 12 week old Ryan. He wasn't too happy when I arrived, but after a little nap he was full of smiles...such a cute little man.

Once his big brother awoke it was time to answer his many questions..and take some extra shots...with a few bribes thrown in of course!

Last year it won the Best Print (novice section) at the Whittlesea show:

Beside the sea-side | Melbourne family photography

After a week of grief and sadness in Victoria, it almost felt unfair to be enjoying a weekend away.

We camped at beautiful Sorrento, Victoria.

A week after the horrific fires, and the sun still rises in a smoky haze:

We had wanted to enjoy some time together as a family...which we did.

The Sorrento back-beach was such a stunning location:

Our family, along with all Australians, has been devastated by the horrific events of February 7th 2009.

The bushfires (which continue to burn) have destroyed entire communities, homes and, most sadly, lives.

Australians are incredible people, especially in times of need.

The generosity and outpouring of grief has been quite humbling.

Inspired by a wonderful photographer in NSW KrisLeigh I have decided to donate all session fees until the end of March to the Red Cross Bushfire Appeal.

To take advantage of this offer here's what you need to do:

Gorgeous times three | melbourne family photographer

I finally met Effi, John and their three gorgeous children, on Sunday.
After cancelling Saturday because of extreme heat, then a last minute change of plans as it was raining when we arrived at the park...we finally managed to get together at Nonna's house!

Beautiful Miss M surprised me with her enthusiasm for the camera...and just look how sweet she is with those gorgeous curls..
Her 11 month old twin brothers weren't quite as happy in front of the camera...but they really behaved beautifully, and were quite exhausted by the time I had finished.

His bunny | melbourne child photography

We were given this white bunny rabbit when Charlie was born...and he soon became quite attached to it. He sleeps with it every night, and he always travels with us when we go on holidays.

These shots were taken in Dec 08 on holiday in QLD.

We have only lost bunny once...in a shopping centre. Charlie cried himself to sleep and I was sick with worry that we wouldn't find him the next day (we hadn't realised until bedtime of course!) - and I wished we had taken a photo of him. The next day we found him in Dimmys with all the other stuffed toys..and I cried. He generally doesn't leave the house any more!

Charlie is 5 now, so I'm not sure how long bunny will be his best friend.

I thought I might put this on his bedroom wall.

January 2 - Harry maintaining the vege garden

January 3- the boys zoned out in front of the tv, after an afternoon at the pool

January 5 - Remember when it was ok to run the hose down a plastic slippery dip?...and you could run and slide on it for hours? This is the boys first ever experience (just a squirt from the tank)...how sad they can't play under the sprinklers anymore.

Summer Holiday part1 | melbourne custom photography

We have just had two weeks on the Sunshine and Tweed Coast.

Spending time together as a family was wonderful, and we all enjoyed the magnificent weather, sun and surf. The boys spent hours swimming in the pool and Grant and I even managed to relax!

The first of many pics to come:

My first day on the Sunshine Coast...I arrived with Charlie and Harry and we spent the afternoon playing on the sand...I love the late afternoon sunlight.

Welcome to 2009! I am really excited about this year. My 3 boys will all be at school...and for the first time in over 9 years I will have some real time to myself. That has always been the plan for me...do nothing in 2009...and yet here I am running a business that I absolutely love!

So, my logo has been updated and pricelist reworked. Not too many changes but if you are interested in booking a session, please check my website for the finer details.

I have simplified my packages down to 3, and have included some new products - canvas prints, leather bound albums and portrait folios. I am in the process of including images of all products.

I have also included a special pregnancy package. For only $100 I will do a maternity shoot and include some prints for you. This is only available when booking a newborn session (must be taken within 2 weeks of baby's birth). Please contact me if you would like a maternity session. These can be done around 30+ weeks.

On a more personal note I have just enjoyed over 2 weeks in sunny QLD with my family. We had a wonderful time watching the boys swimming in the pool and beach, and just generally hanging around and enjoying themseves. I am feeling very relaxed and rejuvenated!

I am participating in a 'photo per day in January' challenge with an online group. I will update my blog with pics from the challenge every few days or so...but thought I would share my January 1 2009 image...a self portrait.

Christmas carols were playing and the boy's faces lit up in delight as they put together, then decorated the Christmas tree...

The winds of change | Melbourne family photography

It's a funny thing, being a Mum. All those important milestones and achievements...first smiles, rolling over, crawling, toothy grin; walking on wobbly legs and babbling...not to mention the tantrums, nappies, tears, refusing to do whatever it is you want them to do...then all of a sudden they're a bit more grown up and life gets easier...they go off to occasional care, kinder and friends for a play, but they are still yours most of the time. They hold your hand tightly and talk about the wonders of the world, and ask a billion questions..

..and then one day they are wearing a school uniform..and your heart skips a beat.

Charlie has just had his much anticipated kinder concert (at nighttime!!). He and his little gang of friends had such a fun time...the smile on their faces was an absolute delight.

Our last kinder concert....

I have waited so long for them all to grow up...I just wish it didn't happen quite so quickly!

This pretty little girl had just woken up when I arrived (well I had forgotten my white backdrop and had to race back home for it...but she hadn't been up for long!).

What are mounted prints?

Mounted prints come ready to hang, and are an alternative to canvas. The print is mounted onto 20mm lightweight foamcore. An edge is added in either black or white, and a protective surface is overlaid so that the image is protected.

It's probably time for an update on where I'm at...if anyone is remotely interested??

Everything has just fallen into place for me this year with my new business. I have had some wonderful experiences with fabulous families. It really is something I am so proud to do..provide beautiful, lasting images for families...to be invited into your homes and trusted to interact with your precious children..thankyou!

I cannot believe the year is almost over! My baby boy starts school next year, and so begins a new chapter in my life...as I will have some more time to pursue my love of photography.

In other news...I have recently had a run of good luck!

I like to enter competitions occasionally...sometimes because there is a prize involved (love that!) and sometimes so that my work is on display to the public (quite like that too!).

I recently entered a competition with WESTFIELD shopping centres for their 2009 kids calendar (look out for it - avail soon at your local shopping centre)...well I was surprised when notified I was a finalist and then thrilled to be told I was a winner! Not only will my photograph (my 3 boys in their saints gear) be featured in the calendar...but I also won a $500 gift voucher..YIPPEE!

My luck continued on the weekend when I received a couple of phone calls from friends visiting the Whittlesea Show...where I had some photographs on display...not only did I win first prize in the portrait section, but I also won Best Print in the novice section...and a beautiful blue ribbon!

I was just thrilled.

Anyway enough ramblings from me.

I have spent the day feeling VERY spoilt at the MELBOURNE CUP carnival..in the VRC pavillion - drinking champagne and enjoying a fabulous lunch...right in front of the race track.

My husband is 40! (at last) | Melbourne photography

So at last Grant joins me as a forty year old.

He didn't want to do anything special...so I decided to surprise him with a very special visit from his family...who flew in from QLD.

I wish I had captured the look on his face (perhaps not the words from his mouth..which the kids repeat as 'beep') when he saw his sister emerge from the 12 seater party bus!

I had only told the boys 15 mins before, so it was a secret well kept.

With the bus filled with ballooons and appropriate 'happy birthday' music (thanks Sam)...we set off for Evelyn County winery for a fabulous lunch...

Just a little show off post today.

I entered a photographic competition 'Smile with Centro'...and I was pretty thrilled to receive an email confirming that I was a finalist and my pic was on display at Warringal Shopping Centre.

So I shoot down there Monday morning to see which one got in...to find two of my entries on display!

Met up with some fellow photographers (Sharon, Melissa...and Mandy later on) at Montsalvat in Eltham (Melbourne). Wow! What a fabulous location...absolutely stunning buildings and gardens, and oh so many wonderful places for photographs. Unfortunately the weather wasn't perfect...but that's melbourne for you.

The kids had a great day, exploring and running through the grounds...while us Mums with camera's scurried after them...in pursuit of that perfect image!

A part of the process was sorting through and selecting my favourite images...no easy task. Anyone who knows me, will know that I take a lot of photographs!

BRIGHTON BATHING BOXES

This must be one of my favourite spots for photographs...I love the colours, white washed walls...and even the squally winds!

The boys weren't so keen on the sand blowing in their eyes...

but I do love the beach in winter!

From Brighton we travelled down to Sandringham for a catch up with Natalie and her two gorgeous kids...the weather had been pretty awful so when it did clear up a little we rugged up and walked down to the beach for a bit of a run around....and some more shots!

Camper Trailer

Queens birthday long weekend..

I'm happy to report that I am not the only one reading my blog! So this very belated post is for those few fans who check regularly...and have been nagging me to update (you know who you are).

We picked up our new camper trailer on the Queens birthday long weekend, along with our friends the Carmichaels. We were very excited to get the camper set up quickly and with relative ease...on the banks of the Murray river, near Rutherglen. 3 days of rough camping...well as rough as I like it anyway...no toilets, water, none of the essentials!

Needless to say the boys had a fabulous time...collecting and chopping firewood, exploring the river bank, sitting by the fire, toasting marshmallows and just generally being free...

Sophie..on the road to recovery..

Sophie - nearly 13...nearly there...

I visited our friend Alison and 12 year old Sophie at the RCH last week.

Sophie is undergoing her 5th round (this year) of chemotherapy for leukeamia. One more to go.

It was hard for me to fully understand how so much poison can enter such a young body, yet she can still bring a smile to her face...and make normal teenage demands of her mother!

Alison is doing an amazing job...as are the rest of her family.

I can only image how painful a journey it has been...

physically and emotionally..

I believe that something positive can come from the worse experiences.

Perhaps it's a special bond between mother and daughter,

maybe it's a different perspective, a new outlook, a new appreciation...of life.

Our love and thoughts are always with you Sophie...

dusk

Beautiful, beautiful dusk....

My favourite time of day - it's not daylight and it's not night...it's that wonderful soft glow of dusk. At the moment dusk is late afternoon, the air becoming crisp, and the sunlight (when it's out) is glowing...

While the older boys have footy training, the younger kids have a great time running around in the fresh air...

Sophie

Sophie

This is beautiful 12 year old Sophie.

Just a week before what should have been her first exciting day of secondary school, Sophie was diognosed with Acute Myobastic Leukemia (AML).

This rarer form of leukemia is treated with approx 6 months of aggresive chemotherapy.

Sophie is responding well to treatment, and is more than halfway there.

Our thoughts and love are with you Sophie..

When I visited the RCH Sophie had undergone her first round of chemo...here she is with her Mum, Allison..

3 boys and a girl

These gorgeous kids belong to the most amazing family...

Twin 3 year old boys, a stunning 6 year old girl, and a very interesting eldest son

(who doesn't especially enjoy having his photograph taken..)

It's not easy to get all the kids looking happy..so I am pretty happy with this one..

joy...

Up until this day she would not ever let me take her photograph. Not sure what changed today, but I'm glad it did. Isn't she beautiful!

I've been a bit slack with my postings...there's more to come!

School Holidays

Wow - school holidays came around quickly this term...probably a good thing for Harry who is pretty tired from his first term at school.

It's not easy getting three boys to be still and look at the camera..and not pull silly faces for a photo. I quite like this one of Mum with my crazy kids:

We spend a few hours at CERES, Brunswick with some EB photographer friends..sadly it was wet and cold, and Charlie's face says it all!

Girly time...

As the mother of three boys, it's always nice to photograph gorgeous girls!

I was very lucky today to spend some time with tiny baby Mason.

Born 3 weeks ago, he is only 5 pound now...and just beautiful.

Anyone who knows me, knows how much i love babies...and little Lucy Maya is my favourite!

Born in November 2008 to my gorgeous friend Elissa...she truely is a little angel.

We were recently lucky to have the boy's Grandparents, Barry and Debbie, visit for a week.

We only really see them once or twice a year, so the boys were very excited...

My blog starts here...

My love for photography started a long time ago...

For as long as i can remember I have held a camera in my hand.

I 'see' photographs all the time, and hate it when i don't have my camera with me!

Just before i turned 40 I decided it was time....

Time for me to follow my dreams (as much as possible as the mother of 3 busy boys that is!)

To pursue what i love to do...and to spend time doing what i love.

I love photographing children... natural, pure, divine images of childhood.

Obviously my own children are my first inspiration, but i hope to expand my experiences this year and photograph friend's babies and children

...and perhaps the occasional pregnant friend as well (none to speak of at the moment!)

I thought i would start with my top 10 favourite photographs,

all taken in the last year or so...
